The “Health and Care” department combines projects in health research and health care research. On the other hand, projects on old-age provision and old-age security investigate the care of people in retirement age.
Medical-technological progress, demographic change, increasing chronic diseases and a disproportionately low increase in the revenue base of statutory health insurance: these trends force a focus on scientifically evaluated, effective and efficient care structures, but also on effective health and prevention programs. infas offers meaningful empirical research – be it on the epidemiology of diseases, on aspects of health care provision, on the new development, implementation and evaluation of model concepts or on testing the effect of measures under everyday conditions.
The pension and provision systems are also coming under pressure as a result of demographic change. In order to be able to further develop these systems in a targeted manner, precise knowledge of the pension and old-age provision situation of all groups of people in Germany is required.
Robust results on the prevalence and causes of diseases and health hazards an important data basis for health policy decisions and the development of preventive and therapeutic measures. Epidemiological studies that investigate these relationships provide information, for example, on the prevalence, risk factors, and incidence of new cases. infas has a long tradition of conducting epidemiological studies in health research.
The activities of infas in the field of epidemiology include:
In addition to knowledge about the causes and frequencies of diseases, health services research plays a decisive role in the further development of the health care system: What health care needs exist? What care structures can be used to meet these needs with the available resources? What care services are provided in the health care system? What gains in health and quality of life result from this? infas health research offers a wide range of services to answer these questions – from physician and patient surveys to the evaluation of process data, administrative data and documentation data from health insurance companies and service providers to impact analyses of model projects. For these complex analyses, we draw on our many years of experience in preparing and linking individual data from a variety of sources.
Public transport plays a significant role in achieving climate targets or ensuring future mobility in metropolitan areas and rural areas alike. At the same time, public transport is in strong competition with private transport and new mobility services.

Demographic change is putting pressure on pension and provision systems. In order to be able to further develop these systems in a targeted manner, it is necessary to have precise knowledge of the actual pension and old-age provision situation in Germany: Which groups of people provide for their old age and to what extent? To what extent do they acquire entitlements in statutory pension insurance, occupational pension schemes and private pension insurance? What pension income do which households receive in retirement – from all income sources and, if relevant, including partner income? Also relevant for pension reforms is the population’s acceptance of various reform options. Finally, it is important to know whether the state-subsidized pension system works in its actual implementation, i.e. whether the specific pension products, such as Riester pensions, meet the requirements placed on them. Our studies provide empirically based answers to these questions.
