Family, household and resources

This area of expertise deals with as many different issues as there are family lifestyles in Germany. The resulting diverse family constellations often lead to complex household surveys. In addition, this area of expertise focuses on changes over time and thus on longitudinal studies – in some cases over many years.

Environment and consumers

Climate, nature and consumer protection and the sustainable use of resources are closely interrelated and have become significant issues regionally and globally. Under this focus, infas bundles a variety of survey and research projects that look at current life situations, expectations for the future, and readiness to act.

Labor, economy and innovation

In this area of expertise, infas addresses diversity and innovation in the world of business and work. Important focal points include quality of work and employee health, company and establishment surveys, and labor market policy.

Mobility

infas conducts nationwide baseline studies on mobility, most recently in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg. The social science-based mobility research measures and analyzes advantages and acceptance, but also obstacles and barriers of innovative mobility solutions. Thus, we conduct research on current topics such as multimodality, electromobility, automated driving or car sharing.

Health and care

This area of expertise includes projects in health research and health care research. On the other hand, projects on old-age provision and old-age security investigate the provision of people in retirement age.

Regional structures

Since its founding, infas has been conducting regional research and, on the basis of empirical surveys, helping local actors to identify new challenges and developments at an early stage in order to derive measures for the future on this basis.

Survey Innovations

Continuous developments in social science research at various levels call for contemporary, increasingly complex survey methods as well as associated measurement instruments. In order to take account of this demand for innovations in structural and organizational terms, we have set up the “Survey Innovations” department.

Inequality and participation

This area of expertise bundles research projects on socio-structural and socio-cultural conditions of social participation that focus on the living conditions of specific groups. Our special expertise lies in survey access to hard-to-reach target groups.

Statistics and analytical methods

In quantitative studies, the underlying sample plays a central role. It contributes significantly to the quality. For this reason, sampling is a topic of constant research, optimization and innovation at infas. In addition, our statistics department is continuously searching for new analysis methods.
