DESTATIS publishes travel statistics

infas has been continuously surveying the travel behavior of the German population for the Federal Statistical Office (DESTATIS) since 2012.
The office has now published key results for 2023 in a press release.
From the press release: “In 2023, travelers from Germany took a total of 251 million private and business trips with at least one overnight stay in Germany or abroad.
According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was 13% more than in the previous year, but 4% less than in the pre-crisis year 2019.

infas surveys travel behavior by means of telephone interviews conducted on the basis of a random sample (dual frame). Among other things, travel destinations and durations, choice of means of transport, occasions, accommodation and expenditure are measured. Selected results since 2012 are available in GENESIS-Online. Data for the entire survey period since 1996 is also available in the Eurostat database. To the DESTATIS press release
