From 2017 to 2021 a comprehensive “representative survey on social inclusion of individuals with disabilities” is being carried out. It is the first survey of this kind in Germany. At the heart of the empirical study are the opportunities of social inclusion and respective barriers experienced by people with disabilities or impairments.

Based on the ICF concept, the focus is social inclusion in various areas of life, with specific emphasis on the possibilities of self-determined lifestyle and the personal and technical assistance and remedies claimed by individuals with disabilities and impairments.

The survey shall apply to all groups of individuals with disabilities and impairments, regardless of their impairments’ nature and whether they live at home or in a facility. The goal is to representatively include all groups of individuals with disabilities.

The project is conceived as a participative research project with numerous individuals with disabilities and relevant experts involved.
