The WELLCOME study, part of the project “Youth unemployment, mental health and labor market outcome,” is researching the current living situation and transition into education and employment of young migrants and refugees in Germany. WELLCOME is an artificial word that links the arrival of young adults in Germany with their well-being. Therefore, the survey spans the following topics: Legal status, migration process, origin and family of origin, educational background in the Syrian education system, education and training, labor market orientation and employment status, current activities, financial situation, housing situation, language skills, religion and values, network resources for advice and support, health and mental well-being, experiences of violence and traumatization, panel readiness and readiness to feed process data from the Federal Employment Agency.
Befragt wurden 18- bis 24-Jährige mit syrischer Staatsangehörigkeit, die in den Monaten Juni bis August 2016 erstmals bei der Bundesagentur für Arbeit arbeitslos gemeldet waren. Die Erstbefragung erfolgte im Methodenmix CATI und CAWI in den Sprachen Arabisch und Deutsch. Im Zeitraum von Juli bis Oktober 2016 wurden 2.328 CATI-Interviews und 404 CAWI-Fälle realisiert. Davon waren 97 Prozent panelbereit und 95 Prozent erklärten ihr Einverständnis zur Zuspielung von Sozialversicherungsdaten.
Die 2. Welle erfolgte rein telefonisch von Januar bis Mai 2017 und erzielte eine Realisierung von 71 Prozent. In der 3. Welle konnten von Januar bis August 2018 insgesamt 53 Prozent der panelbereiten Fälle (Basis Welle 1) telefonisch befragt werden. Zwei Jahre später wurde von April bis September 2020 die 4. Welle durchgeführt. In der telefonischen Befragung, konnten dabei insgesamt 30 Prozent aller weiterhin panelbereiten Fälle aus Welle 1 realisiert werden.
