The European Social Survey (ESS) is a social science study that has been taking place in more than 25 European countries since 2002. The aim is to gain a Europe-wide picture of the social and political attitudes of citizens.

Central research questions include:

  • How are the living conditions for the citizens in Germany developing?
  • What personal ideas do citizens have about life in their own country?

In 2021, the German sub-study of the ESS will be conducted for the tenth time. infas was commissioned by GESIS to carry out the survey.
