What personal digital data do consumers leave behind in their everyday actions and how is this data used by companies?
This question was investigated by infas, which conducted the study “Verbraucherspuren in der Digitalen Welt – Wie groß und wie nutzbar ist der Datenschatten?” (Consumer traces in the digital world – How big and how usable is the data shadow?) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection.
The results have been published by the ministry.
The study represents an important contribution to the debate on consumer data protection and data shadow.
Not least because it shows the difficulties and challenges to which the right to information is subject in practice.
